At’s Summer Time

Many of us are off on adventures this time of year.  Loretta and Frank are on their way to Washington where they will be staying for about a month.

Dorothy, Donna, Mary and Tish will be leaving the morning of the 8th to hike several of the National parks in Utah.  You can see what the four of us are doing at http://donnalw.com.

If you have any questions regarding the hikes give Kathleen Sandidge a call, she stepped up to the plate and has arranged the hikes during the next 3 weeks.

Kathleen Sandidge. 785-1763.

Many of us will be off here and there during the summer but the hikes will continue, so check the calendar.

Coleman Valley Road/ Western Hills Nursey

Commentary provided by Kathleen Sandidge

After a scenic drive down the coast, with sunshine, turquoise waters and views of crashing waves, we walked on a very bucolic country road, lead by fellow hiker, Mike Nevard. After an hour tour of a 3 acre public garden by Stacy and where Mike volunteers most Thursdays, we lunched and hiked back to our cars. Inspiring hike, great company and a garden full of surprises. For example, a Bald Cypress as seen in the Florida Everglades in Northern Coastal California. A great day.

Local Hike 12-13-2011

Today was a local hike led by Kathleen and it was a glorious day in the neighborhood.  Six of us got a bit ambitious and ended up hiking around 10 miles.  The day stayed just about perfect until the very end, then the cold came upon us.

Willow Creek/Islands in the Sky

13 of us met at TSR Lodge and carpooled to Duncan Mills.  The hike up to Islands in the Sky was beautiful and it was challenging to some of us. When we got to the top it was fabulous.  Down we went:  also challenging but we were rewarded with lunch at Cape Fear.  No camera, sorry.

Windy Hollow Road

Commentary by Loretta Healy:

It was a cold and sunny day….11 of us met at Anchor Bay and carpooled to
the Arena Theater  where Linda and Mary awaited us. We walked up to
Riverside and down Windy Hollow Road to the casino.  Windy Hollow is aptly
named, but it was a very nice walk in country most of us had not seen
before.  We toured the casino, but did not eat or gamble, except for Frank
who put a dollar in the quarter slot and got $7.75  back, exactly enough to
buy us a latte after the hike.  On our way back up the road a small red car
came roaring up behind us going at least 60 mph.  We all shook our fists (or
fingers) and swore at the driver.  It was really dangerous.  The drivers
went back to the theater to get cars and met the rest of us at Linda and
Jorge’s home to eat our lunch on their front porch.  It’s so  comfortable
there and they are such friendly hosts.  Tulla was a perfect lady.  Sorry,
no pictures.
